Sambhali Trust in May 2014

SAMBHALI'S MAY 2014


Volunteers and Supporters in general:

We thank Juliane Schramm from Germany who came with her bicycle all the way from Germany (Berlin) to India (Jodhpur). Starting her journey with 15 fellows in August 2013 and being part of a project called "2 wheels for change". As a professional circus arts teacher along all her way she gave free workshops to orphans and refugees in all countries she passed. With us she gave a 3 days theater-acrobatics-juggling-workshop to 10 of our Sambhali Jodhpur Empowerment Center's participants.

Volunteers from FSD, presented a nutrition workshop in the Setrawa Empowerment Centre to the women of the Sheerni Self-Help Group as well as participants of the Empowerment Centre. The workshop dealt with the important nutrients in food, dealing with folates, iron, the importance of purifying water as well as vaccinations. A nutritious dish of lentils, tomatoes, garlic and spinach was prepared and served to all those who attended plus some water melon and mangoes. The volunteers are preparing a handbook, so that the workshop can be repeated at regular intervals.

Group of interns from USA on Global Study Tour organised by Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) meeting and discussing issues on local nutrition supplements, diets and problems with Dr. Anurag Singh from the Department of Pediatric, Government of Rajasthan and Dr. Rashmi Rathore 7E Med SPA HR & Admin Head cum Nutritionist in Jodhpur.


"No Bad Touch" Project:

Team of Sambhali giving presentation about our project NO BAD TOUCH to the team of Child Line (A toll free line for children in need). The No Bad Touch project is to inform the children about prevention, awareness and education about Child Sexual Abuse. It was nice to exchange ideas with Child Line team. We asked the Child Line team to be ready for accepting calls from our NO BAD TOUCH participants who are from different schools from Jodhpur where we have been providing the Sambhali No Bad Touch project.


Sambhali Scholarship Program:

Some of Sambhali Trust's first participants of Scholarship project. Five of them passed their schools last year. They pursued in college and also enrolled in a one year long Hotel management diploma course. With continuing at their college they are now doing their part time job as hotel trainees at the Heritage Hotel Ajit Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. It was their first day today! They make us very proud, they are role models for many young women who wished for change and development in life. Thank you to their sponsors who supported their schooling and to Sambhali Austria for helping them with Hotel Management course.

Sambhali in April

Sambhali Trust was invited as a Non-Profit Charity by the Jodhpur District's Government Administration for discussing the problem of Child Marriage and to support Zero tolerance on the same issue. We are grateful for this recognition.


Projects:

Our new selection of purses was made by our new graduates at Brothers for Sisters Sewing Centre for Sambhali Boutique. We decided to add Ipad covers, mobile phone covers etc. to the usual items. We hope you will like our new products! Available online.


Sambhali Brothers for Sisters Empowerment Center participants are very happy at the moment because of receiving the Beauty therapy workshops. Each batch of 20 participants are going through 10 days workshop. All the products are natural and available easily at home in kitchen for daily routine.


Stories:

Chinu, a single father of two daughters and a son. His wife left the family a year ago. It is difficult for him to raise his children by himself. We sponsored these children to continue school. But food and boarding has been a problem. This morning our volunteers Sorcha and Esme has come to us to discuss the future of these children and has offered help to support these children have better and brighter future. We will put these children in good boarding home facilities and continue school.. Thank you to the sponsors of these children who helped them with schooling, Sorcha and Esme for helping them with food and accommodation.


"No Bad Touch" Project:

The Sambhali Trust's No Bad Touch Project is growing locally, the campaign is running under the close supervision of Dr. Reena Bhansali of Smile Junction, Jodhpur. Psychology Interns from World Unite of Germany, volunteers and staff of Sambhali trust have been approaching schools locally for setting up workshops in order to educate the children, raise awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse. Sambhali Trust is the first organisation to address the issue of child sexual abuse openly within the city of Jodhpur, the 2nd biggest town in Rajasthan.


Sambhali at Fort:

A blessed day for us at Sambhali, around 180 participants from 5 different projects in Jodhpur went to see The Fort Mehrangarh (tickets were made complimentary) and were happy to be guided by Dr. Shakti Singh Khakhadki. The trip to the fort was followed by a picnic in Mandore garden. Thanking you participants for your participation at Sambhali.



Sambhali Scholarship Program:

Meeting with the Senior High School students passing schools this year and those pursuing Indian Hotel management (IHM) diploma sponsored under Sambhali Trust's Scholarship project. The IHM students sharing their views about college life, education, difficulties, admissions etc. They are learning from one another.

News:

We are honored to share our day with you. The two of our new empowerment projects, the new Sambhali Logo were officially inaugurated today followed by an oath ceremony for all the participants at the programs to come out and vote in these upcoming Indian elections. The main focus of the two Women and Girls empowerment projects will be to provide vocational training and primary education to women and girls on walking distance from their homes. We are proud to introduce yourselves to the new Sambhali Sisters for Sisters Empowerment Center in the old town and Sambhali Abhivyakti Empowerment Center in the suburb. The day was witness to the presence of the Additional District Magistrate, attended by Municipal Corporation Committee Councilor, Deputy Director from the Department of Women and Child Development, Deputy Director from the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the President of Sambhali Austria. Sambhali products were at display, the boarding home girls were singing welcome songs, the new participants also came to get their names enrolled for the centers, graduates displayed their work. March 2014 - Sambhali News for you all!!


New project:

Congratulations everyone.. we found this very nice, new place in the old town of Jodhpur to help more women and girls. The new empowerment center is based near Mertiya Gate and will be called Sambhali Sisters for Sisters women and girls empowerment center. Our first meeting today went successful with the amount of women and girls interested in our project but sad at the same time because of not being able to help everyone.


"No Bad Touch":

Another feather in our hat, the department of education has approved Sambhali Trust to spread the campaign 'NO BAD TOUCH' in the government school of the district to aware, educate and prevent the children from Child Sexual Abuse. Thank you Dr. Reena Bhansali from Smile Junction, Jodhpur and The Child Welfare Committee- Jodhpur and ARC UNSW, Australia for helping us initiate this campaign in July 2013.

Supporters:

Sarah Harrington one of our volunteers organised a fundraising ball on 28 February in Cheltenham, England, which included dinner, dancing, raffle prizes and auction. We are very thankful to Sarah for all the work she has done to put on this event. The fund raised will establish and run our new Empowerment Centre for 30 women and girls called Abhivyakti Empowerment Centre, which we hope to open in March. We would like to say thank you to all those who donated the auction and raffle prizes as well as all those who supported this event. A wonderful time was had by all.

Sambhali Video project:

Three students from IIT Varanasi came over the other day and documented Sambhali's work in Jodhpur. Thank you very much to everybody involved. I hope you enjoy the video.

"Panaah Shelter Services":

Dear all, we are very fortunate to have started the 'Panaah Shelter Services'. Many women and girls from Jodhpur and outside of town have been approaching us for emotional, psychological, legal and counseling support.
Ms. Mehta speaking to one of the ladies who came to us the other day. Thank you for your generous contribution to the trust for allowing us to helping those in need of a 'Soul Family'.

Sewing Machine Program:

Today we were fortunate to give 35 sewing machines to the women and girls participants of our Vocational Training programs so that they can become financial independent. Now they can also work from home. The day was endorsed by H'ble Member of Legislature Assembly Ms. Suryakanta Vyas from Sursagar, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Our eldest volunteer at Sambhali Trust, a beautiful strong lady 76 years young from Switzerland: Ms. Nobs is teaching participants of Sambhali Jodhpur Empowerment Center how to do Knitting and Crocheting.
